5 inch gauge Polly V 2-6-0T

A 5 inch gauge Polly V 2-6-0 - one the best we've ever seen, in excellent condition throughout.

This one has come to us from a long time customer, a highly experienced, fastidious engineer with experience in locomotives - both steam and battery electric - as well as traction engines. Regular readers may remember his fabulous 6 inch scale Ruston Proctor SD tractor which we sold way back in 2011 - the engine itself finished and maintained to the highest standard, its custom-fitted trailer exhibiting his "no problem is too small that it doesn't deserve a thoroughly engineered solution" philosophy!

The pictures say more than the words with this one. Suffice to say it was assembled to an excellent standard, powder-coated throughout (as are all his engines) and fitted with any number of well-conceived, meticulously executed details. We particularly like the clear top water tank lid, allowing a driver to see the axle pump return when the bypass is open; the water tank level gauge in the cab, and the footplate-mounted injector with overflow directed through the floor, allowing easy visual confirmation that it's picked up.

The boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests in recent days, with new certification issued. Water feeds are by axle and hand pumps, with an injector piped up to take water from a separate tank on a driving truck.

The engine steamed freely on the rolling road, maintaining water level and pressure without need of the blower; mechanically quiet, it runs well in either direction.

Offered with 12 months warranty, set of firing irons and a starter kit of coal and oil. We would be more than happy to give half a day's instruction on the steaming, running and disposal of the engine to a new owner if required.
