5 inch gauge Royal Scot

A 5 inch gauge "Royal Scot", built in prototypical three cylinder form.

A well-built engine completed in 2004, it has spent much of the last ten years on display in the last owner's house, unsteamed since he bought it. An imminent house-move has now caused a thinning out of his collection of locomotives, leaving him two or three to admire in the new house, whilst he gets on with a 5 inch gauge "Duchess" in the workshop.

We've tested the boiler and run the engine. Whilst the condition of chassis and boiler suggests very little use, its lack-lustre performance on the track appears to be the result of a disagreement between inside and outside cylinders over exactly which direction they want to go in - two loose driving wheels may be either a result or cause of the indecision.
