5 inch gauge "Sweet Pea" 0-4-2T

An interesting take on the ever-popular "Sweet Pea" design, a 5 inch gauge 0-4-2 built as a rather attractive side tank with tender - to our eyes it has a hint of the Southwold Railway's Sharp Stewarts about it in proportion and narrow gauge feel.

Well built originally, the builder thoughtfully making the cab and tanks quickly detachable with the removal of two wing nuts. The engine has been in regular club use until recently, it's now coming up to needing a light bottom end overhaul, with some rebushing of motionwork and valve gear required.

The commercially built CE-marked boiler has had a hydraulic and steams tests with new certification issued.

On test the engine steamed freely; hand and axle pumps proved reliable, the injector worked but dropped out from time to time. Fitted with twin mechanical lubricators, the left hand one requires servicing.

Keyed to their axles, the front left hand wheel is loose - the wheelset requires dismantling and reassembling with Loctite.
