7 1/4 inch gauge Romulus 0-4-0T

A 7 1/4 inch gauge Romulus to the popular Roger Marsh design. An older engine, well made in the first place it steams freely and runs well, although now requiring some work.

The silver soldered copper boiler by John Ellis has had a hydraulic test - whilst structurally sound, there are two leaks, one at each side of the foundation ring at the back. Once takes up under steam, the other fizzes and drips persistently. Both need attention, for which the boiler will need to be lifted from the frames.

Other work required includes:

  • Service/replace injectors - LH shows no signs of life, the RH one picks up but overflows significantly
  • Service/replace RH clack - leaks intermittently
  • Service/replace ejector - currently only pulls 8 inches of mercury
  • Service safety valves - they lift reliably, but need a tap to close
