Stuart "Lightweight" vintage two stroke engine with centrifugal pump

A rare pre-war Stuart "Lightweight" engine driving a centrifugal water pump, complete with carburettor, trembler coil, coolant and fuel tanks.

The engine was introduced in 1924, with an updated version appearing in 1930. A three port, two stroke design intended for use in racing boats, it also found a ready market for pumping and generating applications.

Living up to its "Lightweight" name, the crankcase was cast in Electron, a magnesium-based alloy; the engine was available in both air and water-cooled versions, the latter relying on thermo-syphon circulation from a remote water tank.

Oversquare, with a 34.5mm bore and 32mm stroke, the later engine was rated for 0.3bhp at 3600rpm.

The engine turns over freely, with a suggestion of compression.
