2 inch scale Fowler K1 ploughing engine

The third ploughing engine built by Colin Tyler in his partnership with John Haining - they designed and built several engines and associated tackle in the 1960s and early 70s, serialising construction in the "Model Engineer" Magazine, going on to write "Ploughing by Steam" together, with Colin going on to write "Digging by Steam".

The Fowler K1 is, to my eyes, one of the most elegant of Fowler's ploughing engines, its Victorian proportions have an elegance and spareess of line - the later compounds were almost thuggish by comparison (which, I suspect, may be part of their appeal...)

The engine has recently come to us as part of a large collection which includes the builder's other ploughing engines, associated implements including plough, cultivator and mole drainer and his magnificent Darby-Savage broadside digger. Boiler is copper, silver soldered throughout, built by Alec Farmer of A.J.Reeves. We suspect the model has spent much of its life on display - it runs well on air (there's a short clip of it here), however in deference to its age and historical significance we have not steamed the engine.
