5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 5

One of the finest 5 inch gauge locomotives we've seen in recent years, a Standard Class 5, Riddles' design based on the LMS Black 5.

The work of a supremely capable builder, a man responsible for several locomotives and a number of stationary engines all built to the highest standard. In between what must have been many thousands of hours spent in the workshop, he also found time to compete in IMLEC - we're in awe!

Words for this one considerably less important than the pictures opposite. We would put it at better than 90% complete, the chassis runs on air, work to complete includes some platework, fittings and painting.

In addition to building an extraordinarily finely detailed model, the builder has taken a good deal of trouble to make the engine easy to maintain, with axles running in sealed cannon boxes and tools included for operating the blowdown, removing the grate and shutting off the boiler manifold for testing.

Three replica Wakefield mechanical lubricators provide cylinder and piston valve lubrication overseen by a sight feed in the cab, as well as a multibranched feed lubricating valve spindle and crosshead guide bars, piston and piston valve glands.

Complete with a pair of crates for locomotive and tender.
