5 inch gauge GNR Atlantic

A 5 inch gauge Great Northern Atlantic - something we more often see in 3 1/2 inch gauge, if anything it's even more handsome scaled up.

This one has come to us from a customer north of the border with a large collection of locomotives displayed in his house - so many that, from time to time, some have to be moved on to make room for newcomers.

I had the pleasure of spending an hour or two in his company recently which afforded the opportunity to view some interesting models, as well as bringing a couple away to free up some of his shelf space!

The Atlantic came to us along with a 9F, having been on display for some years. We've tested the boiler - a commercially made, CE-marked job by GB Boilers - and issued new certification. Other than requiring new safety valves - the originals accumulated - there was nothing of note arising from the test, the boiler is in good condition, all water feeds work reliably.

The engine steams freely and runs well, down to low speed. It requires notching back one in forward gear, reverse can be difficult to get into full gear until the engine moves, whereupon it drops in and run nicely.
