5 inch gauge NER T1 0-8-0

A well-advanced 5 inch gauge NER T1 0-8-0, an exceptionally well-built engine with a quantity of works drawings, notes and photographs which were being used as a reference to produce an authentic, detailed model.

Built by a highly capable engineer, the engine was last worked on over twenty five years ago before passing to a close friend, himself a skilled model engineer with several published designs and books to his credit. Stored in a heated workshop ever since, it's now in need of a similarly capable engineer to complete what will undoubtedly be a very fine locomotive.

Work to date is to an excellent standard throughout. The chassis rolls freely, fit and finish of the motionwork is very good - we like the detailing including finely proportioned crossheads with slippers and oilboxes, prototypical brass axlebox oilers, and the counterbalanced weighshaft.

Copper boiler is by Swindon Boilers, silver soldered throughout.

The compensated brake rigging has been made and fitted, featuring finely machined clevises and threaded adjusters.

The tender is largely complete, with some work to complete on pipework and brake gear.

The engine comes complete with a large quantity of parts to complete, with smokebox and cab assemblies; running boards; machined and unmachined castings; boiler fittings including valves, pressure gauge and injector; mechanical lubricator and hand pump.
