Gauge 1 SR Merchant Navy "Blue Star"

A scratch-built gauge 1 Southern Railways "Merchant Navy" Pacific, number 35010 "Blue Star" - the prototype was built at Eastleigh works, entering service in 1942.

The work of a prolific and talented engineer, as well as the Merchant Navy and a 9F in gauge 1 he also built 5 inch gauge locomotives, traction engines, yachts and fine scale model cars. The winner of five medals at the Model Engineering Exhibition, he won the Crebbin Cup for his 5 inch gauge Shay.

A well thought out design, the entire streamlined casing lifts off for ease of access. Casing is beautifully made in nickel silver and brass.

The boiler is butane-fired with twin flues, the gas regulator valve is on the backhead with silver-soldered copper gas tank built into the tender.

The locomotive rolls freely - it appears, like several other of the builder's models, to have had little if any use.

Complete with fitted storage box.
