3 inch scale Burrell 6nhp agricultural engine

A 3 inch scale Burrell 6nhp agricultural engine to the Plastow design, recently arrived in part exchange against a 5 inch gauge locomotive.

An older model which has only seen occasional use in the last owner's garden - the "registration number" and nameplate refer apparently to the builder's daughter and her year of birth, rather than the age of the engine.

It's come to us with no previous boiler history, although a twice working pressure hydraulic test showed up nothing other than a couple of beads of water on firehole door ring and stay heads which were dry in steam.

Well made in the first place, the engine, whilst somewhat grubby, steams freely and runs well - there's a clip of it here.

There are various jobs require attention, including:

• Leaking regulator
• Leaking blower valve
• Leaking clack valve
• Lubricator requires servicing
• Safety valves lift early, require resetting
• Leaking injector water valve bush
• Replace missing water gauge shut off cock handles
• Repack piston rod gland
