Part-built 5 inch gauge Shay

A well-advanced Shay geared locomotive, built to the well-regarded Hiraoka design, scaled up from 3 1/2 to 5 inch gauge. The work of a prolific engineer - we had his 4 1/2 inch scale Foden wagon, 5 inch gauge Sweet Pea and 7 1/4 inch gauge Hunslet in last year - work to date comprises a substantially complete chassis with drive to trucks, most of the platework and a brand new CE-marked TIG-welded boiler.
