1 1/2 scale Allchin traction engine

A well built 1 1/2 inch scale Allchin to Bill Hughes' highly detailed "Royal Chester" design, an older model which has spent many years on display as part of a large collection of traction engines and locomotives.

Paintwork and lining were executed to a high standard originally, and remain in excellent condition.

There is evidence of the engine having been steamed in the past, it's free to turn over and runs well on air in either direction.

The silver soldered copper boiler is fed by a mechanical pump - neither an injector or water lifter were fitted when built.

On hydraulic test at twice working pressure the boiler appeared sound, other than minor beads of water on the nutted firebox stays which would take up under steam. However, in the absence of any previous boiler history, the cladding would need to be stripped for examination prior to issuing new certification if recommisioning for steam - not something we've done, given its age and exhibition standard finish.
