2 1/2 inch gauge GWR 15XX 0-6-0PT

We originally sold this as a running chassis back in 2023. Bought at that time by a highly talented engine builder and boilermaker in Glasgow, it's been further assembled to the condition you can see in the photographs opposite.

The boiler has been largely assembled, though is missing its foundation ring.

Having completed what must be one of the finest GWR 15XX 0-6-0PTs we've seen in 5 inch gauge, the builder turned his attention to this, his last project - a half-size version.

A beautifully made 15XX to LBSC's "Speedyette" design, serialised in "Mechanics" magazine in 1951, scaled down from his popular 5 inch gauge "Speedy".

The work of a highly gifted engineer, the engine has been built to an exceptional standard and includes a chassis which runs like the proverbial sewing machine on air.

The cab is a work of art in its own right, with finely flanged bunker (the alloy former is included should you feel the urge to make another), recessed steps and die-straight precision riveting.

The copper boiler exists as a loosely assembled kit of flanged and formed parts - other than tubes and some material for the foundation ring it appears complete and ready to silver solder together.

There is a set of drawings, along with a box of loose parts including pressure gauge, hand pump, part-formed tanks, superheater and an exquisitely made regulator which is silky smooth in operation.

One of those engines where the pictures tell the story. There is the potential here to produce a superb model, vanishingly rare in this gauge, with little further expenditure other than hours in the workshop.
