3 1/2 inch gauge Southern "Schools" 4-4-0

A 3 1/2 inch gauge Southern Railway "Schools" 4-4-0, Maunsell's handsome design, the most powerful 4-4-0 to run in this country.

A well made model, built as a two cylinder engine and starting to show signs of its age, with faded paintwork and minor work required, including:

  • service leaking drain cocks
  • service/replace leaking injector clack
  • service water gauge fittings to rectify leaking blowdown
  • repack right hand cylinder glands
  • fit new gaskets or sealant to left hand front cylinder covers, which leak slightly

The boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued.

On test it proved free-steaming and ran in either direction, it can be notched up in forward gear.
