45mm narrow gauge Accucraft Lynton & Barnstaple 2-4-2T

A gauge 1 Accucraft Lynton & Barnstaple "Lyn" 2-4-2T, the original engine supplied new in 1898 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of America. The line had opened with three engines built by Manning Wardle, however it was quickly realised that more motive power would be required.

From July 1897 until January 1898 there had been a national engineering industry dispute over working hours, resulting in a lockout at many firms. The three Manning Wardles were delivered just before the strike, but the company was subsequently unable to accept an order for a fourth locomotive. Baldwin were chosen, being able to supply a locomotive at very short notice, based largely on standard parts they had in stock.

The model, depicting the locomotive in its later Southern livery, is in good condition - steam-tested in the workshop, it ran well in either direction.
