5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 4 No.80018

An 5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T, this one has come to us as a part of a collection of fine standard gauge locomotives.

The engine appears to have had little use from new, its previous owner keeping it for display in his house.

The engine has been steamed and runs well in either direction, although requiring work to iron out teething problems we suspect have been present since completion, including:

• service/replace injectors
• service steam-operated draincocks
• fix reverser stand which is currently loose

A finely made model which would repay the work required - one of the nicest Class 4s we've seen.

Fit and finish of machined parts is to a high standard; platework is nicely formed, the paintwork and lining done to an excellent standard and remaining in ex-works condition.

We like the details on this one including working replica Wakefield lubricators, split bronze axleboxes and the prototypically correct return crank positively located on a squared pin.
