5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 7

An early stage 5 inch gauge "Britannia", built by a man who spent many years tuning and racing various classic motorcycles - including one of the supremely handsome "Manx" Nortons - both on the Isle of Man and mainland short circuits. Now well into his seventies, he's only recently retired from the sport.

The Britannia was started as a retirement project and shows the same attention to detail as must have been required to prepare his racing machines. Work to date is to a high standard, and comprises:

  • Complete tender, painted and lined
  • Commercial CE-marked silver soldered copper boiler by G.B.Boilers
  • Erected frames with gunmetal horns
  • Front bogie truck
  • Rear pony truck
  • Machined driving wheels, axles and gunmetal axleboxes with SKF sealed roller bearings
  • Piston valve cylinder assemblies
  • Smokebox
  • Unmachined castings including chimney, dome, smokebox door and front ring, dummy springs
  • Laser profiled parts including smoke deflectors
  • Set etched nameplates/number plates/works plates

Parts and castings for this design are available from Blackgates Engineering.
