5 inch gauge Class 08 battery electric

A nicely made 5 inch gauge Class 08 shunter, powered by a pair of 12 volt batteries which, combined with the all steel bodywork, make it a good deal heavier than it might appear - great for adhesion, not so good for hernias...

It came to us as part of a larger collection of good engines, including the 3 1/2 inch gauge "Evening Star", 5 inch gauge Class 37 and 5 inch gauge Royal Scot "Sherwood Forester", as advancing years meant a move into N-gauge for their retired company director owner.

The chassis is fitted with three motors, one per wheelset driving through gears, with a Solo controller by PG Drives Technology, complete with remote handset. It runs well, with programmed acceleration/deceleration in the controller giving a "soft start" - there's some video of it here.
