5 inch gauge GWR 14XX 0-4-2T

We've recently bought this one back in from a long-time customer. We've issued new hydraulic and steam certificates in February 2025 - it's in much the same condition as last time with the exception of the axle pump, which has been disconnected due to a broken solder joint behind the left hand side tank.

A 5 inch gauge 14XX 0-4-2T to Neville Evan's "Didcot" design - the work of an experienced model engineer, he also assembled several kit-build locomotives.

Paintwork is execrable, but underneath the locomotive was decently made in the first place and still runs very well in either direction, albeit with some wear in the motion.

Mechanical pumps all work well, the injector quickly becomes fussy as water in the side tanks warms up. There's a leak in the steam pipe to the injector, it really needs a new piece of pipework making up.

There's some video of it in the yard this afternoon on our YouTube channel here. An engine that can be run as is, with scope for improvement over winter.
