5 inch gauge GWR 4-6-0 No.6024 "King Edward I"

We sold this one 18 months ago, it's recently come back as the owner downsizes to gauge 1. Pictures opposite and words below are from the last time it was here - condition is unchanged, other than us having fitted a new pair of injectors.

We first bought this one in 2016 - then turned out as No.6026 "King John", it had been on display in the owner's hall for many years. It's recently come back from the family of the last owner, nowadays as No.6024 "King Edward I".

Since arriving with us the boiler has had hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued. We've modified the safety valves - which had accumulated on test - made up and fitted new TIG-welded stainless steel radiant superheaters and rebushed the inside big ends. The hand pump had, at some time in the past, been disconnected - it's been reinstated, fitted with a new clack and pipework.

Paintwork was done to a good standard originally and remains bright, with minor wear and blemishes consistent with use.

The engine steams freely without need of blower on the rolling road and runs well with crisp, well-defined exhaust beats.
