5 inch gauge LNER B1

A 5 inch gauge LNER B1 to Martin Evans' "Springbok" design.

The work of an experienced model engineer, the man responsible for the 5 inch gauge L1 we sold last year and Simplex that was in recently. We bought all three engines and workshop machinery from the late builder's family - none had been steamed from new, the B1 appeared to be the last engine he had worked on.

The boiler had had a twice working pressure hydraulic test in the workshop and a certificate issued for same - it's well made with neatly flanged plates and good solder penetration.

The chassis is finely made, fit and finish of the motionwork and valve gear is good. Seized at the moment, we suspect through simply standing for some years untouched, it will require partial stripping and the return cranks setting.
