5 inch gauge riveted copper boiler

A magnificent riveted and calked copper boiler, a large thing at over a couple of feet long and weighing in at more than half a hundredweight.

The method of construction may date from an earlier era, however years ago a Great Western tank engine with boiler of similar construction proved - much to our surprise - to make steam like it was going out of fashion. There are some pictures and video of that in the archive (showing, if nothing else, just how much video quality has come on in the last 16 years!)
