6 inch scale Burrell steam wagon

Well known on the rally fields (and no mean performer on road runs either), this is a half-size replica of Burrell's prototype steam wagon of 1901, a vertical boilered, compound twin design. The original engine was used as a development hack and works transport in the early part of the twentieth century, it didn't survive into preservation (although several of Burrells later wagons did).

Welded steel boiler with expanded tubes, 200psi working pressure with feed by injector and mechanical pump driven from the crankshaft with bypass valve. Twin spring type safety valves, ball valve type regulator.

Twin cylinder compound engine with slide valves actuated by Stephenson's gear with pole reverser. Mechanical lubricator. Two speed transmission with final drive by chain to the rear axle, high and low gears are selected by the lever next to the reverser on the footplate, the engine can be run out of gear if required.

A well-built, free steaming engine which goes very well - it gets along well on the road, the builder reports a range of nearly ten miles on a tank of water. Weather was wet and miserable last week when we steamed it, Connor drew the short straw and got to run it around the estate - there's a clip here - with strict instructions to look warm and happy for the camera.
