7 1/4 inch gauge Hunslet "Lilla" 0-4-0ST

A well-built 7 1/4 inch gauge "Lilla", doubled up from Ross Harrison's 3 1/2 inch gauge Penrhyn Hunslet design. Larger than the more common Alice class, it makes for a large engine in this gauge - we sold a complete one earlier in the year, there are pictures of that one in the archive here.

The engine is the work of a talented and prolific model engineer, a man with many years in industry behind him (and a workshop I covet, with Schaublin and Hardinge lathes, two milling machines and more finely honed tools and drills that you can imagine!). With interests spanning locomotives, stationary engines and internal combustion engines - from vintage open crank through any number of Westbury designs to vintage model aeroplane engines - his house and workshop have something to see on every shelf.

With advancing years the Hunslet, as the build has progressed, has now become too heavy to work on, let alone contemplate handling when complete. With another, smaller 7 1/4 inch gauge locomotive on the bench, along with several stationary engines, it's time to let a new builder take over the project.

Work to date is to a fine standard, machining is crisp, fit and finish of parts good.

Complete with boiler documentation, drawings, patterns for castings and a purpose-made steel building frame, allowing the chassis to be turned over.
