7 1/4 inch gauge petrol hydraulic Class 08 shunter

A scratch-built Class 08 shunter, of all steel construction and powered by an electric start 4bhp Tecumseh BH40 four stroke engine coupled to the well-proven Eaton hydrostatic transmission which virtually have a monopoly in this application.

A large, powerful locomotive it requires a delicate hand on the throttle and gear handle when running light engine. It runs well in both directions - there's some video of it here - although the forward/reverse indicator on the dashboard gives a rough idea of direction rather than any accurate information!

The transmission dump pin is remote controlled from the cab, which makes manoeuvring the thing about with dead engine convenient. The locomotive is fitted with vacuum brake pump with driver's brake valve in the cab, two tone horn and cooling fan.
