Portass Lathe

A Portass back-geared screw-cutting lathe, by the Portass Lathe & Machine Tool Company of Sheffield, a popular machine for model engineers in its time.

This one is grubby but substantially complete, fitted with a Pratt three jaw chuck and Jacobs tailstock chuck.

The electric motor drive is a later addition, it includes a clutch. The 1/2 horsepower Metropolitan Vickers motor is a period piece in its own right - it will require testing for electrical safety before use.
