5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 2 2-6-2T

A 5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 2 tank locomotive, the last engine built by an experienced model engineer, left on his bench 12 years ago and untouched since.

Chassis is well preserved and would clean up easily. Brass work is tarnished and spotted from long term storage in the shed, steel parts above the running boards have surface rust.

Chassis is stiff to turn over although apparently without tight spots - we haven't tried to force it, first thing to do would be strip cylinders to make sure bores are clean and oil around pistons and valves.

The engine has been built to a highly detailed standard throughout, with as much work hidden beneath as is visible above.

Not a weekend project this one, however given quality of build and scarcity in this gauge, a worthwhile project with the potential to produce a fine, rather valuable locomotive.
