5 inch gauge GWR Dean Goods 0-6-0

A 5 inch gauge GWR 0-6-0 "Dean Goods", the class of 260 engines built between 1883 and 1899 at Swindon - one survives in preservation.

The epitome of Victorian elegance, we think these look wonderful (only slightly influenced by having the cab plate from No.2564 hung on our engine shed wall, acquired from Swindon when the engine was scrapped).

This one came in recently from a long-time customer in part exchange for another - arguably equally good-looking - goods locomotive.

On hydraulic test the boiler showed two pinhole leaks on the foundation ring, with another leak on one superheater flue at the smokebox.

The engine runs beautifully on air with crisp, even exhaust beats - it would make a worthwhile restoration project.
