5 inch gauge Waverley Atlantic 4-4-2

We sold this one before Christmas to a highly prolific local engineer; something of a polymath with credentials in classic motor restoration, something has had to go with the arrival of a 7 1/4 inch gauge Duchess in his workshop.

This has come back to us dismantled; motion has been thoroughly cleaned up, platework sprayed into etch primer. The original rear axle with eccentrics has been scrapped, cylinders have been apart, rehoned and fitted with new valve chest covers.

A well-advanced 5 inch gauge North British Atlantic to Martin Evans' handsome "Waverley" design, serialised in "Model Engineer" magazine starting in 1986.

The build was started in 1985 by a gentleman in Fife, work continuing until his death in 1994, with a commercial boiler supplied new by Bishop-Ellis in 1988.

Acquired by a friend of the late builder, the engine has been in storage for the past thirty years, waiting a turn in the workshop which never arrived.

With advancing years, the owner decided to pass the project on, in the hope that somebody will complete what has the potential to be a fine example of this large, handsome design. Whilst rather grubby and suffering from light surface rusting, the workmanship to date is to a good standard.

Complete with building stand, copies of "Model Engineer" containing the construction articles and a book on the North British Atlantics.
