7 1/4 inch gauge LMS Black 5

A particularly well-built 7 1/4 inch gauge LMS Black 5 to Martin Evans' "Highlander" design. The builder had already cut his teeth on a 9F and Collet 0-6-0 before building this one, he's now well on with a 7 1/4 inch narrow gauge locomotive, being built for a friend.

Silver soldered copper boiler, 100psi working pressure, four element radiant superheater. Feed by twin injectors with auxiliary hand pump in the tender. Cast iron cylinders with piston valves actuated by Walschaerts gear, screw reverser in the cab. Steam brakes on locomotive, with vacuum braking for train.

This one has come direct to us from the builder, it has had light, considerate use - typical of an engine driven by a man who's spent 2000 hours in the workshop building it. It runs beautifully with solid, square exhaust beats, notching up in either direction - there's some video here of Connor having a potter up and down the yard on it following its steam test recently.

Complete with three large packs of drawings, notes and copies of the original construction articles from "Model Engineer".
