SECOND HAND
2306
Kerr Stuart produced over 160 of the diminutive "Wren" class, shipping the all around the world for industrial duties. Weighing only four tons in working order, with a three foot wheelbase, they could get round the tightest corners on the grottiest, temporary track almost anywhere it could be laid. Which, in turn, makes a 7 1/4 inch gauge version just about ideal for a compact garden railway!
This is a well-made engine to Ken Swan's "Wren" design. Copper silver soldered boiler fed by injector and crosshead pump. Outside cylinders with slide valves actuated by Hackworth valve gear, mechanical lubricator. Spring-loaded drain cocks, operated from cab.
The engine steams quickly and runs very nicely. The motion work is in good condition, the paintwork, although serviceable, could use a little attention around the edges. Surprisingly powerful for its size, easy to drive and with the robust, simple construction of the full-size prototype, it makes an ideal beginner's engine.
