Gauge 1 Midland Class 3 No.2781

A gauge 1 Midland Class 3 4-4-0, No.2781, one of a class of locomotives designed by Samuel Johnson and built between 1900 and 1905 at the railway's Derby Works. They were the first Midland engines to be built with Belpaire fireboxes.

The boiler has had a hydraulic test with new certification issued, the chassis runs on air in desultory fashion, it would likely be better under steam.

The engine needs some work, including a replacement pressure gauge and meths pipe between locomotive and tender, as well as servicing the hand pump and clack valve.

Complete with wooden carrying box.
