Lorch LAS precision leadscrew lathe

A vintage Lorch precision screwcutting lathe, a later LAS model with rounded headstock and enclosed countershaft, dating from around 1958-1965. In recent times the lathe has been painted to a high standard and fitted with a new motor.

The machine features a 65mm centre height, 285mm between centres.

In good condition, with a range of tooling and accessories, including:

  • Compound slide
  • Morse taper tailstock
  • Countershaft and V-belt drive under the headstock cover
  • Changewheels
  • 3-jaw and 4-jaw chucks
  • Selection of collets
  • Catchplate
  • Travelling steady
  • Drill chuck and arbor
  • Toolholders
  • Tap holder and various centres
  • Manual

The LAS was a high end toolroom lathe, marketed by Lorch to compete with contemporaries such as the Schaublin 102 and similar size machines by Boley.

Renowned for their excellent spindle bearings, the exceptionally smooth carriage movement combined with generously sized leadscrew handles contributes to the machine's "Rolls-Royce" feel.
