5 inch gauge BR 9F 2-10-0

A finely built 5 inch gauge BR 9F, a highly detailed model built to the Les Warnett design which earned its builder the Charles Kennion Memorial Trophy a the 68th Model Engineer Exhibition. One of the nicest examples we've seen in this gauge, it runs as well as it looks.

Silver soldered copper boiler, combustion chamber design with four element radiant superheaters. 90psi working pressure, twin three cock water gauges with coupled feed cocks and glass protectors, feed by twin injectors with auxiliary hand pump in the tender. Front and rear ashpan dampers controlled from the footplate.

Cast iron cylinders with piston valves actuated by Waslchaert's gear, screw reverser in the cab with gearbox, latch and cutoff indicator. Steam operated drain cocks, twin mechanical lubricators. Axles are hollow, with centre driving wheels flangeless, as per prototype.

As a change from seeing a clip of it running on our rolling road, there's a super video of the engine running in buccolic surroundings North of the border at the end of last season - it's one of the many excellent videos on Lee Sutherland's YouTube channel, used here with his kind permission.
