5 inch gauge BR Standard Class 5

We sold this one last year - around 90% complete at that time, the work of a supremely talented builder responsible for some of the finest locomotives we sold during 2021 including a 3 1/2 inch gauge Southern Pacific 2-8-0, Southern "King Arthur" and Caledonian Railway 0-6-0T, along with a 5 inch gauge Hawthorne Leslie 0-6-0ST.

It has now been completed by a long time customer of ours, a similarly capable engineer whose quality and quantity of work impresses me every time I visit - currently on his bench is a recently finished 7 1/4 inch gauge Black 5 and a well-advanced 5 inch gauge Duchess, with work just started on another Duchess in 7 1/4 inch gauge.

Now completed and deemed "too good to steam" the Standard 5 has recently come back to us in part exchange for a 5 inch gauge LMS Jubilee and 7 1/4 inch gauge Royal Scot, an unrebuilt engine to the Bassett Lowke design, now being converted to correct three cylinder form.

Pictures opposite were taken in recent weeks - there is a comprehensive set of pictures and further information about the engine in the archive here.
