5 inch gauge Great Eastern T26 2-4-0 No.490

A 5 inch gauge Great Eastern Railway T26, the Robinson-designed 2-4-0 built from 1891 onwards, the class eventually numbering ninety locomotives.

I don't know what it is about open cab Victorian 2-4-0s, but to me they're the very epitome of the "Light Gentleman's Sporting Locomotive" (readers with a long memory may remember I said exactly the same thing about a North Eastern "Tennant" we sold nearly twenty years ago!)

A well made engine, mechanically it's in good order and runs well on air. However, on the first steaming following a succesful hydraulic test by the previous owner, a leak appeared in the outer wrapper which will require the boiler lifting to repair.
