A well engineered 7 1/4 inch gauge LNER V2, 60809 "The Snapper". It came to us along with a Black 5 from the late owner's son, the engine hadn't been run in some years.
Overall it's in super condition, mechanically it runs very well, fit and finish of the valve gear and motionwork is good, the engine is nicely detailed throughout.
Both engine and tender are vacuum braked, unusual in this scale, wheels have steel tyres fitted. There's a super whistle mounted underneath the rear driving wheels, about a foot long and with a most mellifluous note.
Silver soldered copper boiler by Swindon Boilers, 100psi working pressure. Four element radiant superheaters, feed by twin injectors. Twin pop type safety valves.
Cast iron cylinders with piston valves actuated by Gresley-Holcroft conjugated gear, the centre cylinder's valve deriving motion from the Walshaerts-controlled outer cylinder valves. Triple sight feed lubricators with tank underneath footplate.
Vacuum ejector with gauge and driver's brake valve in the cab, brake cylinders fitted to locomotive and tender, with reservoir fitted to tender chassis.
There's a clip of it running outside the workshop here.
