Part-built 2 1/2 inch Flying Scotsman

Part-built "Flying Scotsman" to the Bassett-Lowke design.

 

Complete tender with water and spirit tanks and pumps. Rolling locomotive chassis with driving wheels, front bogie, pump eccentric and rod, coupling rods and cylinders fitted. The chassis rolls freely without tight spots.

Other parts and castings including spirit burner, splashers, saddle, chimney, dome, complete front buffer beam, connecting rods, radius rods, pump casting and sundry small parts such as buffers, boiler handrail stanchions etc.

There is a photocopy of the original Bassett-Lowke booklet describing the engine, along with some note from the 2 1/2 inch gauge society, who still hold the original drawings. The engine was originally designed for spirit or coal-fired boilers, an improved coal-fired boiler was described in the "Model Engineer" in the 1980s.
