3 1/2 inch gauge LNER A3 Pacific No.2502 "Hyperion"

A 3 1/2 inch gauge LNER A3 Pacific No.2502 "Hyperion", a well built locomotive which recently came to us in part exchange for a Southern "King Arthur" in the same gauge.

The silver soldered copper boiler is fitted with radiant superheaters, it's had recent hydraulic and steam tests with new certification issued.

Three cylinder chassis with slide valves actuated by Gresley-Holcroft conjugated valve gear, the displacement lubricator has a sight feed in the cab; boiler feed is by twin axle pumps and injector, with auxiliary hand pump in the tender.

The engine steams freely and runs particularly well, mechanically quiet with well-defined exhaust beats - there's some video of it on the rolling road here.

The original engine, A3 No.2502 "Hyperion" was built at Doncaster works in 1934, it was finally withdrawn and scrapped in 1964.
