Westbury "Unicorn" horizontal mill engine

A particularly well made example of Edgar Westbury's "Unicorn" mill engine, a design serialised in "Model Engineer" magazine in 1953.

Based on an engine dating from around 1800-1900 found in a derelict mill, much of it had already been claimed by a scrap merchant. Westbury drew it up, designing the missing parts by reference to contemporary practice. The end result is a handsome engine, modelled at a scale of 1 1/2 inches to the foot.

This engine has come to us from the daughter of the late builder - ticking over on air in the works, it was the first time she'd seen it run in nearly fifty years!

Machining and fitting is to a high standard, the paintwork remains in good condition. Complete with Watt governor, water pump and tank, it shows little sign of wear, running well on air with clear, square exhaust beats.
