3 inch scale Marshall steam roller

A 3 inch scale Marshall steam roller, unsteamed from new, by the same builder as the McLaren road locomotive currently listed.

An experienced engineer and long time friend, we met when, both in our twenties, we kept full size road engines in the same yard. Mine was an 8 ton Aveling roller, his a 12 ton Marshall - it was perhaps inevitable he would eventually build a model of it.

A large engine, of impressive proportions at nearly five feet long ad weighing in at just over a quarter of a ton. It's largely complete and free to turn over, although will require work to commission. Most fasteners still need tightening down, the valve needs setting, glands need packing, boiler fittings have been fitted without PTFE or sealant.

The boiler is welded steel, with expanded tubes. It is well made, apparently by the same hand as the McLaren's boiler and showed no signs of leaks or distortion on a twice working pressure hydraulic test - we would warranty it as sound.

We suspect that the builder cut and prepared the plates and tubes himself, before having them welded together professionally, however the family could find no paperwork in his effects for either engine.
