4 inch scale Clayton wagon

A 4 inch scale Clayton undertype steam wagon, just over five feet long and weighing in at something over a quarter of a ton ready to run.

The steel boiler was commercially built by Gloucester Steam & Traction and is complete with original manufacturer's paperwork, along with historic club and commercial certification. It's had a recent hydraulic test and internal inspection - we would warranty it as sound, however it needs a washout to remove scale, and cladding removed to inspect the barrel, before certification could be issued.

The engine runs on air, better forwards than backwards. The boiler is mounted on the footplate with thin gauge brackets, giving it something of a wobble when the engine is running - they need replacing with something altogether more substantial.

The steering is geared through a pair of chains and sprockets - not prototypical but well thought-out and remarkably effective, providing light steering with the wheel falling comfortably to hand, rather than requiring the driver to stretch forwards.

The wagon runs on pneumatic tyres and is road-registered with V5 document.
