3 1/2 inch gauge "Mountaineer"

A 3 1/2 inch gauge Alco 2-6-2T to Don Young's "Mountaineer" design, based on the example preserved on the Ffestiniog Railway. Modelled on a two foot gauge prototype, this comes out as a large 3 1/2 inch gauge engine, nearly a yard long and a two man lift.

Silver soldered copper boiler, 90 psi working pressure. Gunmetal cylinders with slide valve actuated by Walschaert's valve gear with pole reverser in cab. Mechanical lubricator.

Paintwork is getting pretty tired but the engine runs well, valves are set accurately and it is mechanically quiet.
