5 inch gauge Black 5

A 5 inch gauge Black 5, an older engine which has been built to a good standard. Unsteamed for many years, we've recently brought this one back from France where a start was made some time ago stripping it for much-needed repaint. Detaching the cab, reversing stand and removing a few odds and ends was as far as the overhaul got, mercifully - we've got the loose bits in a box.

Never understood why more Black 5s aren't built - Don Young did a good design that works well, it's a handsome looking engine and not a complicated build. Why Martin Evans "Springboks" outnumber them about ten to one is entirely beyond me.
