5 inch gauge "Butch"

We sold this one late last year to a good customer in Wales, it's recently come back in as a part-exchange against a "Maid of Kent". The regulator has been freed off and a new whistle valve fitted, it's otherwise in the same condition as described below.

A 5 inch gauge 0-6-0T to the Kennions "Butch" design, to our eyes one of the prettiest looking tank engines in this gauge.

An older engine, well made in the first place but now needing some work, including:

  • Replacement of water gauge - the glass was cracked when it came to us, however we'd recommend replacement of the fittings as well
  • Seized regulator
  • Leaking whistle valve
  • Some rebushing of motion work

The boiler has had hydraulic test with new certification issued - structurally sound, it has several nutted and calked firebox stays which show beads of water on test but which would take up under steam.

The engine runs well on air in either direction - it would make a worthwhile restoration project.
