5 inch gauge Hunslet 0-4-0T

Built in 2023 by an experienced engineer with a 5 inch gauge Stirling Single and kit-built A4 to his credit, it's fitted with a professional copper silver-soldered boiler from the estimable George Brannigan of GB Boilers.

We've tested the boiler and issued new hydraulic and steam certificates.

The engine steamed freely and runs in both directions, though better in reverse than in forwards - the builder admitted to us that it's never notched up terribly well from the day it was built, it merits investigation in the valve chests.

The paintwork leaves much to be desired, but the platework underneath is nicely formed and riveted - it would take well to a more sympathetic repaint.

There's a good deal of wear in the axleboxes, which render it very noisy in motion - probably a job best addressed one sunny weekend rather than left until the winter.
