1 inch scale Maxwell Hemmens portable engine

A 1 inch scale coal-fired portable engine by Maxwell Hemmens, in excellent condition, unsteamed from new.

The silver soldered multi-tube boiler is fitted with a Ramsbottom type safety valve and fed by a crankshaft driven pump. There is a lever-operated damper at the rear of the firebox.

Silky smooth to turn over, the engine runs beautifully on air.

Highly regarded when produced in the 1980s and 90s, Maxwell Hemmens produced a range of high quality models, including locomotives, traction engines and stationary engines, many of which can be found in our archive pages. The portable engine remains one of the rarer models, this is the first one we've laid our hands on.
