3 1/2 inch gauge BR 9F 2-10-0

A 3 1/2 inch gauge BR 9F 2-10-0, bulit to the LBSC/Evans design serialised in "Model Engineer" magazine.

We sold this one back in 2017 as a project - the boiler, by Western Steam, was tested and warrantied sound, it needed a variety of jobs doing at that time, including overhaul of fittings and attention to a leaky regulator.

It went to a long time customer and prolific model engineer - some work was completed, including fitting new backhead fittings and manifold - but it's fair to say that, in a workshop that at times seemed to have more engines in it than ours, the 9F struggled to get to the front of the queue. A change in circumstances and job meant that we bought the complete workshop and all engines - including the 9F - when the owner moved house.

Although unsteamed since last here, the boiler has been checked over and had a hydraulic test with new certification issued. Chassis rolls along freely although doesn't run on air. Given that it ran well last time it was here unlikely to be a major problem - we'd start by looking at the piston packing.

Pictures opposite were taken in the last few days, you can see the original listing and pictures of the engine in 2017 in the archive here.
