3 1/2 inch gauge "Jenny Lind"

A finely made 3 1/2 inch gauge "Jenny Lind" 2-2-2 to the LBSC design, published in "Mechanics" magazine 1942-43. Not sure just how many model steam engines were built during the war, but I'm sure the articles kept people's spirits up during those dark days!

Based on the class of ten locomotives built by E.B.Wilson & Company for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway in 1847, the original design proved highly successful and was widely copied by other railways for the following twenty years. Beautifully proportioned, the design bears elegant witness to the old engineering adage "what looks right is right".

The model is the work of a highly skilled builder, responsible for several fine engines including a Garratt, Peckett 0-4-0, LMS Mogul and 4-4-2T, all in 3 1/2 inch gauge, with a reputation at his club for running as well as they looked.

Quality of workmanship and attention to detail is to a high standard throughout. Fit and finish of the motionwork and valve gear is good, the parts stamped up to ensure correct assembly; the boiler neatly lagged in wood, fitted with brass bands and beautifully spun outer wrapper cleadings.

The boiler has had a hydraulic test with new certification issued and is warrantied as sound.

Not run in several years, the engine will require work to commission for steaming including repair to a sheared regulator pin, a replacement pressure gauge and repair or replacement of the tender springs, which are in a fragile acrylic material.

Spirited away from the works shortly after it arrived with us - "for safekeeping" - it's currently residing with a fine Crampton in the same gauge on a mantlepiece not a million miles away from here...

Complete with a purpose built storage crate, accomodating both locomotive and tender.
